Mariner United remains unbeaten in another close match...

Another great effort from our boys. We started a little rough and fell behind 2-0 early, but in the second half we did enough to eek out a draw and keep our unbeaten streak alive. With John Butler out we had to juggle a few guys at right defense. Vincent did a great job all day winning balls at midfield and starting our attack. He does a great job sending goal kicks and clearouts back into the opponents end. Tres had another strong game and had a blast from outside the box that I thought was going in when he booted it. Nice job Tres!

Johnny Bowman tracked down a bunch of breakaways and played at his all-star level all day. John Marmelo had a great goal to keep us in it and he also played great on defense and got a key assist on George's goal. With Butler out we needed Marmelo, Anthony, and Christian to play defense for a little bit and all three did very well. Ryan had a tough start facing a lot of shots but in the last 10 minutes made a handful of saves that kept us in the game. Including a couple of saves that the Norton coach said were "spectacular". Nice work Ryan!

I told Remy in the last few minutes that we needed another goal and that he had to come up big. He beat the defender down the left sideline and launched a perfect cross to the middle of the box. Anthony got a good read on it and one timed it into the back of the net in one of the best bang bang goals of the season! Some clutch play from Remy and Anthony at crunch time. Nice job boys! Our players never give up and REFUSE TO LOSE!

On a down note we had a few incidents with our players getting into trouble with the referee. The referee called me over after the game and asked me to talk to my team. I will repeat what I said last week and what I have been saying all season. If you play with poor sportsmanship the coaches cannot keep putting you out on the field. It makes us all look bad. And this week it could have cost us the game. Lets play with good sportsmanship from here on out.
