Psichopaidas leads Mariner United over Westport

After a tough loss week one our boys bounced back on Saturday with an impressive 8-0 win over Westport. George and Marmelo got us going early on putting pressure on the Westport defense which resulted in an own goal, a Marmelo goal, and two goals from George. I don't know what Nick or Deb said to him before the game, but George was fired up all day and came to play! Mike and I also liked the fact that at halftime George was telling his teammates "don't let up its only 3-0, we have to keep playing hard"! George is definitely becoming one of our team leaders. It was also great to see Anthony, Marmelo, Remy, Bowman, Christian, and the rest of the boys talking to each other on the field and cheering for each other from the sidelines. They were calling out to each other the whole game.

Also impressive was the amount of "love" Tres was getting from his mates. We were laughing on the sideline... to a man they just wanted Tres to blast one into the back of the net. But the Westport defense kept blocking his shots. Remy, Curly, Vincent and Butler all scored in the 2nd half. Curly and Vincent were playing unselfish as usual passing the ball around. Curly had a free kick that I think traveled over half the field. Vincent was making passes to the other forwards even though he could have taken the shot. Very happy to see from a coaching standpoint. If your teammate has an easier shot you have to make the pass, no matter how badly you want to score yourself!

Once again I tried to start Curly on offense and he switched with Remy. Which cracks me up!

Christian came back after missing week one and gave us a huge boost at left mid. I thought he played one of his best games of spring and fall. When he makes good decisions and makes the pass at the right time, he is an all-star caliber player!

Ryan was perfect in goal and his punts were consistently traveling well past midfield! Nice work buddy! He was also able to come out and play in the field after Marmelo volunteered to play goal.

Finally a bit of news on the roster. Sam Ortega has added Cole Volkema and Rithin Munangi to our Fall roster. Cole will miss this weeks game but will play the last 3 games of the season with us and Rithin should be available from this week on out. Let's welcome both to our team!
