Curly scored two goals from outside the box and Landon added the game winner on a nice 2nd effort goal to help lead us to a 3-2 nailbiter win over a very talented Acushnet team.
One of Curly's goals came on a free kick that looked like the Acushnet goalie would be able to handle. I don't think Avery thought the ball had that much power behind it. Curly is a rare player that can play defense most of the game and still lead the team in scoring.
Landon's goal was clutch and was made possible by the 2nd effort hustle in the box by Anthony and Cole. The three of them kept the ball alive and never quit on it! Which was great to see....sometimes working hard in front of the net pays off. In Landon's first game as a Mariner, he impressed in goal, on defense, and at midfield. It's incredible that he is just 9 years old. Very few 9 year olds can play U12 at all nevermind play at the level he did on Saturday! Nice work buddy!
It was great to see our other new players Colin, Tyler, and Max get out there and mix it up with our guys. It will take a little time this winter and in March for everybody to get used to each other but we are well on our way.
Next up is Tiverton. Lets work hard, make good passes, and get another win!
Thanks to Tina Volkema for the awesome pictures!
