Christian scored two goals and our keepers made some sensational saves to help us inch one step closer to a playoff berth in a 4-2 win over Westport. Christian was breaking on and winning balls all game and when he uses his quickness and anticipation as he did on Saturday good things usually happen. His goal was a laser from outside the box. And his other goal was on a ball that he intercepted and sent towards the goal. The pressure caused a little panick and an opponent deflected it in. Anthony got us going early with a nice blast from outside the box. I keep telling our boys that if they get a shot from outside the box to take it. Even if we don't score we can jump on the rebound.
Vincent was also playing hard all game and making his presence felt. Dylan and Curly are probably our most consistent players. And this week they both played at very high levels as usual. Curly and Cole got their boots on a ball that ended up ricocheting off of a defender and into the net. Tyler made some outstanding saves in the 2nd half to help protect our lead and one in particular that I thought was a goal he jumped up and got a fingertip on and sent it bouncing off the crossbar. We did a much better job on goal kicks also.
We will be playing for 2nd place this week when we face the undefeated DR Strikers squad at 9AM in a makeup game from the snow postponed game from a couple of weeks ago. We will need to bring our best effort of the season if we want to come away with a win and force a tie for 2nd place.
