Mariner United FC clinches playoff berth with 4-3-1 record

Despite dropping two games in a row we have still clinched a playoff berth!
First off I would like to thank Darren and Alan for stepping in to coach this week! I want to let everybody know that winter has been a great learning experience for our team. We are playing teams who have more 6th graders than we do. We are very young for U12 and Speaking with their coaches they are ALL practicing weekly, and many of them are combined teams so we wont be facing them in Spring. So all in all I am pleased with the fact that our new players have been able to get comfortable with our regulars and compete with these older teams. And when we start two a week practices (hopefully next Wed if Mariner opens the fields) we will be well on our way to becoming a great soccer club!
Lets finish strong against Acushnet this week and in the playoffs in two weeks. But if we lose I dont want anybody to feel discouraged. These are really just scrimmages.
Mike and I will complete our E license training this weekend. The training has been very helpful. US Soccer encourages player centric practice sessions. Which I have always believed in. We will be playing more small sided games and scrimmages and not the drill based, fitness heavy sessions that our boys have been accustomed to in past seasons or with other coaches. Mike and I are very excited to make our sessions more productive and most importantly FUN for this great group of boys! I believe that with this change in coaching philosophy and along with the support of Mariner Youth Soccer that we will be able to give your sons the best possible training sessions on the Southcoast. We have the best training, the best facility at Mariner Fields, the best team website, and the best Youth Soccer organization around. And we also provide all of this at a very low per player cost.
Good luck vs Acushnet this weekend!
I will see everybody in two weeks for the playoffs!
